Hublot Big Bang Unico Italia Independent Blue Hublot announced a partnership with Italian eyewear designers Italia Independent, famous for their cutting-edge designs and for being the first to use carbon fiber in eyewear. The meeting of these two unconventional and disruptive brands resulted in the Big Bang Unico Italia Independent Blue. As you would expect from Hublot, this collaboration extended beyond a simple co-branding exercise and they took the opportunity to incorporate an entirely new case material called Texalium. At first glance, you’ll be forgiven for mistaking it for some kind of blue carbon fiber, but the truth is a bit more complex. Texalium is a unique composite material with an ultra-thin aluminum coating, but the real beauty is the potential for customization: it can be treated and finished in multiple colors, while remaining as light as carbon fiber. It also has a slightly larger weave than carbon fiber; that is, with the right lighting, the blue seems to explode on the watch. Housed within the large 45mm case, the Italia Independent’s open dial proudly displays Hublot’s in-house HUB 1242 UNICO movement, a column-wheel chronograph that took four years to perfect. Finished in reserved gray, the movement nicely balances the watch’s boldness, contrasting well with the details on the electric blue dial. The denim strap, accented with silver studs, is a clear indication that Hublot and Italia Independent are determined to challenge perceptions of luxury and live up to Hublot’s fusion philosophy. Hublot with very little use, in perfect condition, comes with a Hublot Watchwinder box and a one year warranty.
